Cumaru or Brazilian teak (Dipteryx odorata)

Cumaru exotic wood is very resistant against mold, and insects. As the wood Cumaru has its porous closed, the dust will not to penetrate, and only with the water from the rain it will wash your deck surface.

The durability of Cumaru-deck, as an average it will last 25 – 40 years plus live expectancy with little to no maintenance, or refinishing required. Cumaru is also some of the most looking material with wonderful reddish to golden brown color.

Cumaru or as called Brazilian Teak, is similar in appearance to Ipe, depending of your knowledge it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate Cumaru from Ipe. Cumaru does however have a more course and interlocking grain which results in lower dimensional stability in both storage and application. Cumaru is currently being used heavily in the commercial boardwalk industry in 5/4” x 6” decking as a lower cost alternative to Ipe and where termite attack is not an issue.

Strength & Durability

How strong is Cumaru? With a Janka rating of 3540, Cumaru decking is very comparable to Ipe in terms of overall strength. Cumaru is also cheaper than many brands of composite deck material and it is a natural product, giving a better looking on you project.

Cumaru or Brazilian Teak as it is called in some countries, is a tropical hardwood with similar technical properties of Ipe with exception of its resistance to termites.
